A lot of friends have been asking me about the Middle East situation since I spent several years there. I don’t think this makes me an expert on it – the Middle East is a big place, and politics and culture varies.
But I was surprised by the State Department’s statement that they had no warning of the attack on the embassy in Libya. I used to be signed up for embassy security warning statements, and a warning around 9/11 was proforma. Everyone knew that day would be higher risk.
Now, it comes out that the State Department had three days warning from the Libyan government that Al Qaeda was planning something. So not only is the State Department incompetent, they’re also liars. But most of us already knew that.
