Let them Eat Arugula

I recently read a book about the royal court at Versailles and the ensuing French Revolution and while I felt some pity for the royals, at heart (according to the book) they were sickeningly out of touch with the French people.  What really struck me, however, were the parallels to the Obama administration.  I don’t expect Michelle to walk around in dresses from Kmart, but the $4 million taxpayer subsidized Hawaiian vacations and multiple jets to Martha’s Vineyard seem a bit much.

When I first heard the story about the White House being turned into an Alice and Wonderland theme park for a party, I thought – heh, heh, Tea Party!  Do they not see the irony?  But now that I’m reading more about the sheer extravagance of it all, on top of the Obama’s other extravagances…  Who the heck are these people?  Obama seems like Putin writ small – a petty functionary who suddenly gets big power, begins to live a lavish lifestyle, and faces no real criticism in the press because they’re in his pocket.  However, unlike Putin, people are starting to get fed up with Obama (rumor has it people are getting fed up with Putin too, but I’ll believe that makes a difference when Putin’s out of office).

About Mystic Cowgirl

I worked overseas in the aid game for longer than I'd like to admit and learned several important things: 1) Third World countries aren't poor because America is rich. They're impoverished due to socialist governments that provide neither rule of law nor basic infrastructures; 2) These socialist governments redistribute wealth from taxpayers to the government workers. There's no benefit to the poor or downtrodden, and certainly not to the general welfare in terms of infrastructure improvements. 3) America is moving toward the Third World model. Rule of law has been subverted because equality under the law is disappearing as special interests carve out exemptions to regulations and special favors under the law. The redistribution of wealth to government began decades ago -- total compensation for government employees now outpaces salaries in the private sector.
