Worst Image Ever

Remember when George W. Bush was in charge and the whole world hated us?  Neither do I, because it never happened.  Oh, sure, lots of people hated us, but lots of people will always hate us – the US is a big enough player on the world state that an opinion about us is almost mandatory.  Anyway, we got Obama, who campaigned (partially) on restoring America’s image in the world.

And now we get this, US/Pakistan relations are at one of their lowest points ever.  To be fair, relations with Pakistan have been fraught since Pakistanis overran our Embassy in 1979 and the Pakistani government looked the other way until the attack burned itself out.  The last forty years have been a history of the Pakistanis saying one thing to us then getting caught doing another.  I’m just wondering when Obama’s hope and change is going to finally work its magic on the world.

Yeah, I know the answer: never.  Because what the world really wants from America is a consistent policy.  Even our enemies would like to know if they do A, then America will react with B.  But I don’t think even Obama knows what his policy is.  Does he have one?

About Mystic Cowgirl

I worked overseas in the aid game for longer than I'd like to admit and learned several important things: 1) Third World countries aren't poor because America is rich. They're impoverished due to socialist governments that provide neither rule of law nor basic infrastructures; 2) These socialist governments redistribute wealth from taxpayers to the government workers. There's no benefit to the poor or downtrodden, and certainly not to the general welfare in terms of infrastructure improvements. 3) America is moving toward the Third World model. Rule of law has been subverted because equality under the law is disappearing as special interests carve out exemptions to regulations and special favors under the law. The redistribution of wealth to government began decades ago -- total compensation for government employees now outpaces salaries in the private sector.
