To boldly go…

Researchers at the CERN laboratory near Geneva say that they’ve measured sub-atomic particles travelling faster than the speed of light.  Read the full story, here.

What I like about this story (besides being one tiny step closer to Warp speed) is the scientific response.  Einstein’s theory of relativity has been universally accepted for close to a hundred years; you could say there has been a “consensus”.  Some researchers have performed an experiment that shows that Einstein’s theory that nothing can travel faster than the speed of light is false, and the response of the scientific community – repeat the experiment and duplicate your results.  No hysteria.  No charges of someone being a “denier”.  The scientific method at work.  I think even Einstein would approve.
