The head of the ATF, Kenneth Melson, has been removed over the Fast and Furious gun running scandal. The removal of an incompetent bureaucrat should be a good thing, except he’s not actually been removed – just moved. Let’s face it: in the world of big government, no good (or bad) bureaucrat ever really goes away.
It’s still unclear just how far up the food chain this scandal reaches. Attorney General Eric Holder has denied all knowledge of it and Melson has backed Holder on this. Melson has also stated that he’s been blocked by DOJ from testifying to Congress on the matter. If DOJ has nothing to fear, why hamper Melson’s testimony? Meanwhile, the attorney general for Arizona, Dennis Burke, has also resigned.
The plot thickens.
