When governments operate behind closed doors, citizens lose. That could explain part of why California is so poorly governed. Our legislative house gets to keep portions of its budget secret, as if it’s got some black ops team to protect.
Now, a democrat, Anthony Portantino, is raising cain. His budget was slashed in retaliation for not going along with the party line, he claims, and he’s opened up his budget to prove it. Republicans are following suit.
The democratic leader has called for a commission to investigate (insert eyeroll here) but two newspapers – the LA Times and the Sac Bee are suing for access to the budget info. Now.
Should be interesting.
