I am alternately enraged and amused by Byron York’s question to Bachman at the GOP debate last night about whether she was a “submissive wife.” Some commentators have pointed out that Bachman herself raised the issue when she said in 2006 that her husband suggested she get a tax law degree and she did so because the Bible said she should be submissive to her husband.
Still, with everything she’s accomplished and her “take no prisoners” attitude in Congress, does anybody seriously believe she’s not her own woman? In fairness, I seem to remember jokes during the Clinton presidency about who was wearing the pants in the family, and some accused Nancy Reagan of having too much influence (astrological or otherwise) over the presidency. But come on!
I’m glad the audience booed Byron York when he asked that question.
